Twitter's plans to further embed itself in the web have taken new shape following the announcement of a new technology that that will allow people using websites to follow new users or share media directly from the page.
The social network used the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas to unveil its new service called @anywhere.
"Imagine being able to follow a New York Times journalist directly from her byline, tweet about a video without leaving YouTube, and discover new Twitter accounts while visiting the Yahoo home page," Twitter said on its blog.
According to the BBC, Twitter has already partnered with YouTube, Microsoft Bing and eBay, among others.
In other news, just one in five people on Twitter are genuine, according to a new report by Barracuda Labs.
The survey analysed more than 19 million Twitter accounts and found that the social networking website is overrun by fraudsters and fakes. It found that only 21 per cent of Twitter users are genuine.
