Businesses considering implementing cloud services can clear up any concerns surrounding safety if they can find a provider they can trust, according to Dan Raywood, online news editor at SC Magazine.
"The argument around cloud computing and security really comes down to outsourcing, and can you really trust who you are outsourcing to", Mr Raywood explained.
He went on to say that companies should examine whether potential providers can meet their security criteria and offer guarantees that they will not retain any of their information should they decide to switch providers.
Mr Raywood noted that businesses are aware of the vulnerability of new technologies such as cloud computing, but added that "putting thoughts into practise is often the biggest challenge".
His comments came after a new report published by technology research and analysis organisation TechMarketView said that 15 per cent of the UK's software market will be delivered via the cloud by 2012.
