Further investing in IT is key for the future development of the British economy, according to IT sector skills council e-skills UK.

"Technology can help reduce costs and enable innovation, so continued investment into the sector and into the skills of the people working in it is essential for the UK's economic future," said Karen Price, chief executive of e-skills.

Her views emerged as a new survey has shown that the IT sector is expected to grow four times faster than the rest of the country's employment sectors over the next ten, years.

According to the e-skills research, the technology workforce increased at twice the rate of the UK average over the last eight years, reaching more than 1.1 million people today.

In other news, the success of business intelligence projects depends on sponsor risks, according to analyst firm Gartner.

Mark Beyer, who is research director at the firm, said that chief operation officers and IT directors should make sure they find a business sponsor to support business intelligence.
