Constant developments in modern technology could enable a growing number of employees to work remotely, according to a global enterprise communication company.
Aastra said that using technology could be a cost-effective and sensible way to remove the need for certain employees to come into the office every day.
Taking advantage of developments such as video conferencing could reduce travel expenses during a time of economic turmoil, while also offering a solution to tackle the spread of germs and viruses in the workplace.
Mike Ballantine, business development manager at Aastra, said: "There's lots of technology out there now which makes it much, much easier to deploy a sensible and cost-effective solution for people."
He added that home broadband connectivity is now widespread, making remote working even easier for employees.
Computer training could enable individuals to learn how to use the relevant equipment and adopt a more flexible work pattern.
A recent report from the Chartered Management Institute and Cabinet Office revealed that over half of surveyed businesses said they have a plan to deal with business disruption.
