Technology website TechCrunch has been attacked twice by hackers in 24 hours, according to a news report.
"The site is back up and appears to be stable. At this point we are still gathering information on how the site was compromised and will update this post with additional information," a posting on the website said.
On the first occasion, the hackers replaced the site with a message connecting to a site containing links to adult material while on the second occasion the site's visitors were welcomed by an offensive message directed at Michael Arrington, the TechCrunch founder.
Graham Cluely, technology consultant at Sophos, said the hacking attacks indicated that "someone has a personal vendetta" against TechCrunch, Computer Weekly has reported.
In other news, governments and multinational companies should step up their defences to prevent potential threats such as the recent Chinese attack on Google, according to the chief executive of McAfee.
"The Google attack was the most sophisticated we have ever seen with the most complex attack vectors targeting networks with commercial impact," David DeWalt was quoted as saying.
