Tech sector willing to experiment over IT distribution due to recession, says silicon.com

The recession has prompted technology companies to be more innovative in the way they distribute their products and services, Steve Ranger, editor of technology website silicon.com, has said.

"In terms of the impact of the recession, it has made companies more willing to experiment with new ways of delivering IT," he argued.

As a result of the financial slowdown, businesses have started adopting outsourcing, offshoring and "cutting edge technologies such as cloud computing", Mr Ranger noted.

He added that IT spending was "definitely" a victim of the economic downturn as technology companies "put big projects on ice and made do with the technology they had".

His comments came as a report published by technology association Intellect warned last week that the UK technology sector will again face an uncertain year in 2010, despite signs of growth.

The report noted that the industry needs to be able to respond to changing markets, conditions and customer needs more than ever due to a number of factors, including squeezed margins and increased competition.
