Boosted by the launch of the iPad, tablet computers are poised to supersede netbooks, according to Safoora Akbar, editor and marketing manager at technology blog Gaj-it.
"Consumers are more likely to buy a tablet computer over a netbook," she said.
Ms Akbar said that Apple's device is "sleek and lightweight and offers a whole host of features" compared to netbooks, which have often been portrayed as "clunky and rather ugly" as a mobile internet device.
Her comments came after business magazine Fortune reported that a new survey by financial services firm Morgan Stanley suggested that sales of netbooks have been hit by the launch of the iPad.
Recent research conducted by Simpson Carpenter said that UK consumers could struggle to see how Apple's device would fit into their lives as it is at the vanguard of new technology.
But Ms Akbar said that "there will be very little confusion" about iPad's role because "consumers already understand that the iPad's place is within the netbook/computing market".
