The British Computer Society (BCS) has announced that Sun Microsystems has joined its group membership scheme.
The global systems firm stated it has joined the professional IT body in a move to promote IT professionalism within the company.
Other multinational corporations, including RBS, Capgemini and Deloitte have already joined the BCS group membership scheme.
Marcus Harris, BCS UK corporate sales director, commented: "Having a company as well-known and well-regarded as Sun Microsystems to sign up to our group membership scheme shows how significant the role of IT professionalism is becoming to companies competing for, and trying to retain, the best talent for competitive advantage."
Wayne Horkan, chief technology officer, United Kingdom and Ireland at Sun Microsystems added that joining BCS was a reflection of the company's commitment to employee training and career development.
Sun Microsystems was founded in 1982 by Vinod Khosla, Andy Bechtolsheim and Scott McNealy who came up with the name using the initials of the Stanford University Network, which is where the three had studied.
