New figures have revealed that web users in the UK spend 65 per cent more time on the internet than three years ago.
According to the study by the UK Online Measurement company, the average user spends 22 hours and 15 minutes online per month.
Commenting on the jump in use, Jim Monks, spokesperson for TweetMeme.com, said that much of the increase is probably down to the fact that people are engaging in social media activities or searching and finding increasing amounts of data on niche subjects published via social media channels.
"The ability to filter personal news streams will become ever more important as the 'storm of news and information publishing' continues to increase via the social media channels," he explained, adding that "otherwise readers will become 'story blind' as they become overloaded and therefore miss the significant articles being published on the subjects they are interested in".
