Sluggish recovery ‘is holding back IT industry wages’

Wages in the IT industry are being affected by a sluggish economy, according to Pete Healey, sales director at jobs site the IT Job Board.

The UK was emerging from the economic downturn at a slower rate than countries such as Germany, he pointed out.

Consequently, he said, “the perception of UK IT workers is that there is going to be not so much of an increase, moving forward, on their wages”.

Mr Healey went on to say that UK was beginning to catch up in terms of the benefits IT workers receive.

“The UK is coming in line with other countries in terms of benefits packages; IT staff are seeing the are seeing an increase in benefits in kind rather than salaries,” he explained.

His comments emerged as research by the IT Job Board showed only half of British IT workers received an increase in their salary last year, compared to 73 per cent in Germany.
