Slow broadband 'tops British annoyances'

Slow broadband 'tops British annoyances'

14:17 28th May 2010

Slow internet is one of the biggest annoyances for people in the UK, new figures have revealed.

According to a survey by O2, 41 per cent of those polled singled out slow broadband as the most irritating part of their day. It was followed by poor customer service (36 per cent), crime (26 per cent) and job cuts (18 per cent).

Commenting on the findings of the survey, Richard Patterson, a writer at broadband-expert.co.uk, said that there is a series of issues that can affect broadband speed, including "distance from the exchange, contention ratio and even weather conditions".

He went on to say that all these factors conspire to mean that the majority of users are never likely to reach 100 per cent of the maximum quoted speed.

Mr Patterson urged users to check with their internet provider before agreeing to a contract as some "will give you an idea of the expected speed before signing up to their service".
