Broadband provider Sky has announced plans to roll out a new video on demand service to its customers.
According to Pocket-lint, Sky Anytime Plus will offer 500 movies and hundreds of hours of programmes to all Sky HD subscribers who also sign up to its broadband service.
In news that might interest those in the IT industry, customers will be able to use their broadband connection to download and watch a standard-definition movie in around a minute via Ethernet connection.
"There will be over 1,000 hours of entertainment. All movie houses are expected to be on board and we are talking to the UK terrestrial channels," Sky head of TV services Kathryn Downward told the website.
"At launch the service will only be available to Sky Broadband customers," she added.
The service will also enable users to queue downloads, view trailers and search their system, while Sky confirmed its set-top box would allow movie downloads to take place while it is in standby mode.
Customers in search of computer training could be interested in Sky broadband packages, which start at £7.50 per month.
