"We knew things were getting better because last quarter there was a 26 per cent increase in the number of contract IT jobs being advertised and a one per cent increase in permanent roles," Jeff Brooks, chairman of the technology sector at the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), was quoted as saying by Computer Weekly.
Around 160 technology recruiters are REC members and there is a feeling of confidence that the industry is through the downturn, the report also said.
In Mr Brooks' view, the IT sector was not as badly hit as other sectors of the economy.
His comments emerged as a report from US IT jobs agency Robert Half Technology revealed that 42 per cent of chief information officers are confident their companies will invest in IT projects in the first quarter of this year.
