Organisations have yet to commit to server virtualisation in any great numbers, an IT industry expert insists.
While Chris Bone, enterprise products and solutions specialist at Fujitsu, concedes this area has become more popular with recent advancements, take up is still relatively low.
He explains: "The reason server virtualisation has taken off to such an extent is because of the maturity of the platform.
"However, we are still looking at less than ten per cent of server infrastructure out there being virtualised."
However, Mr Bone is hopeful that a lot of organisations who invested in virtualisation technologies for development and test will start to move them into mainstream production, adding: "That's where the acceleration of spend will come from in those areas."
According to a report published by Fujitsu earlier this month, nearly two-thirds of leading IT professionals believe their infrastructures are not flexible enough to meet changing business priorities.
