IT security professionals should work out how their companies can make use of cloud computing securely with minimum risk, according to a market expert.
"They need to look at how it can be done, not why it should not be done," said John Colley, Emea managing director for information security professionals organisation (ISC).
Speaking at the Westminster eForum on cloud computing in London, Mr Colley said that many security professionals assume that cloud computing is too risky.
He added, however that they should "get real as it will happen with or without their blessing," and urged them to trace and examine all the security issues and then find ways of making cloud computing work.
In other news, cloud computing has reduced IT costs at Vodafone and Channel 4 by 90 per cent, the companies have said.
Speaking at the Powered by Cloud conference in London, representatives of the groups said the cost of their cloud-based processing was a tenth of traditional in-house computing.
