Search engine marketing (SEM) will take off worldwide as marketers start exploring untapped territories, Sam Tilston, director of search engine optimisation at Idea Taxi, has said.
"You will see a boom in the SEM industry in other markets as companies start to enter international markets," he noted.
According to Mr Tilston, the growth will come as established markets like the US and the UK become increasingly competitive and emerging markets such as China continue to expand.
His comments came as new figures from market intelligence firm International Data Corporation (IDC) showed that search advertising will record the biggest revenue gains in the US internet advertising market between 2009 and 2014.
IDC said that it expected US spending on internet advertising to "almost completely recover" from the economic downturn this year.
According to Mr Tilston, the industry will carry on growing as online advertising models such as pay-per-click mean that "a company can know the exact return from each pound or dollar spent" on SEM.
