SEO success 'based on link building and keyword research'

SEO success 'based on link building and keyword research'

12:15 14th April 2010

The success of search engine optimisation (SEO) campaigns is largely based on acquiring inbound links and analysing the popularity of keywords, according to Tom Demers, director of marketing at WordStream.

Mr Demers described both link building and keyword research as "crucial to SEO", saying that campaigns "can't succeed" without them.

His views emerged as the 2010 Search Engine Marketing Pain Points Survey revealed that more than a third of search engine marketers (SEMs) believe that link building is the most difficult aspect of SEO, followed by keyword research.

According to Me Demers, SEMs face these difficulties because "both disciplines require a good amount of talent and hard work to be effective".

He advised SEMs to "leverage technology solutions" and "build out processes … that help to automate tasks" in order to make the two aspects of SEO less difficult without changing effectiveness.

In late March, the Search Engine Marketing Professional Organisation said that the North American search engine marketing industry will increase by 14 per cent this year.
