A series of factors will affect how the IT industry develops in the coming years, an expert has claimed.
According to Microsoft chief technology officer Barry Briggs, increasing regulations, data growth and globalisation will have the largest effect on the industry as a whole, InfoWorld reports.
Speaking at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Conference on Monday (May 31st), Mr Briggs said globalisation will change the role of IT in the supply chain.
The expert stated that the excitement surrounding cloud computing is in part misplaced, since the technology will only be one of a number of new developments that will shape the IT industry.
Cloud technologies will also lead to more strict government regulations amid security concerns, Mr Briggs predicted.
The chief officer added that the profile of his company's future customers will affect how it develops, potentially adapting to new business model for users in the developing world.
Microsoft was founded in 1975 and runs operation centres in Ireland, Singapore and the USA.
