The wider community benefits quite significantly if an area becomes a regulated gambling community.
That is the opinion of Robin Le Prevost, head of E-Commerce Development for the State of Alderney.
According to Mr Le Prevost, becoming a regulated gambling community has a "direct monetary benefit in terms of the licensing fee and procedures".
However, he asserted that it is actually the indirect benefits which turn out to be the most important.
Mr Le Prevost explained: "Benefits in the technical capabilities we have had to establish in terms of data centres and utilities such as telecommunications and power."
He went on to say that power and telecommunications are two things which the gambling industry requires in large amounts, meaning that it can help to expand both of these sectors.
This could mean a need, for example, for more telecoms jobs, something which could result in a need for training of people working or intending to work in this sector.
