The British government's announcement that it will postpone the rollout of universal 2Mbps (Megabit per second) broadband in the country is a predictable disappointment, according to Chris Marling, editor of broadband comparison service BroadbandGenie.co.uk.
Mr Marling said that part of the reason why broadband won't be universal anytime soon is due to the scrapping last month during the emergency Budget of the landline tax which was intended to provide "a big chunk of the cash".
Last month, George Osborne, the chancellor of the exchequer, abolished the previous government's landline duty, intended to supply investment in the UK's digital infrastructure.
But the expert added: "Everyone has to be realistic about the economic conditions." He went on to say that having a universal 2Mbps broadband service, whose use is a topic that could be taught in IT training, by 2015 would be an achievement.
In Finland, the country's communication authority said that as of the first of this month consumers and companies would be entitled to a subscription of 1Mbps broadband.
