Internet users should be aware of phishing attempts while surfing online aside from banking, according to Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos.
"There are many places, including your email address, where people could be after information from you for the purposes of identity theft," Mr Graham Cluley said.
He cited fear and sex as the "essential things" that prompt people to make online mistakes, describing them as "the old faithfuls" of cybercrime.
"You either frighten them into thinking they're losing money, because something bad is happening, or you offer them something salacious, whether it's a celebrity story or a sex video," he added.
According to Mr Cluley, such scams are going to carry on as more and more people get on the internet.
A new email scam offering bogus compensation pay out from the Civil Aviation Authority has recently followed the volcanic ash travel disruption, underlining a growing use of present events to tempt people to give out personal details over the internet.
