Web users must update their browser in order to make sure they are safe online, according to Simon May, author of the Rough Guide to Windows 7.
"Whatever browser you have on your PC you need to keep it up to date," said Mr May, who is also blogging for Technologyexplored.com.
He added that the majority of browsers, including Microsoft's Internet Explorer, Mozilla's Firefox and Google's Chrome, have update mechanisms, but users must "allow it to happen".
His comments came as a new report published by Kaspersky Lab said that a vulnerability found in Internet Explorer was among the most widespread malware programs detected last month.
According to Mr May, swapping browsers is not necessarily the safest solution since all of them have their own faults.
Therefore it is "important to keep anti-malware products up to date and to make sure your PC stays up to date with the latest patches", Mr May added.
