Online shoppers 'more savvy' over product searches

20:31 25th March 2010

Online shoppers are becoming more sophisticated in the way they search the web for products, according to a market expert.

Hannah Kimuyu, director of paid search at Greenlight, said that consumers have not only become savvier "with the types of terms they use whilst searching the internet for retail, but they are certainly more in tune with how to use the internet".

According to Ms Kimuyu, there are two types of online shoppers: the first one includes those who know exactly where to go in order to buy something, while the second one includes those shoppers who are willing to go through the process of using a search engine in order to make up their mind about their purchase.

Her views came as the latest IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index figures revealed that shoppers spent 13 per cent more last month compared to the same month in 2009, with an estimated £4.1 billion spent online in February, compared to £3.6 billion last year.
