A large number of consumers choose the convenience of online shopping over traditional high streets, according to Hannah Kimuyu, director of paid search at Greenlight.
"Walking up and down a high street, although it is something that people have traditionally done, it's not the most convenient thing to do, it's a lot easier to shop online to compare products," Ms Kimuyu explained.
Her comments came as the latest IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index showed that online spending increased by 15 per cent last March compared to a year earlier.
The figures also indicated that retailers with both online and store presences were the best performers, posting a 28 per cent year-on-year sales increase.
Ms Kimuyu noted that several fashion retailers have stepped into the online world to serve their clients' needs after coming to terms with the fact that customers are increasingly using the internet.
"People like to browse online before hitting the high street and people still traditionally buy from the brick and mortar, but they are also comfortable with buying online as well," she added.
