Sony has urged the owners of older versions of Playstation 3 to stop using the console for the time being because of a problem with the Playstation Network.
"We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours," a company statement reads. "We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system," it added.
Sony warned users of old-style Playstation 3s that they could face problems such as not being able to restore certain data if they continued to use their PS3 systems.
The company, which has sold more than 30 million older versions of Playstation 3s since 2006, clarified that the problem is not affecting the newer PS3 Slim machines that have been on sale since September 2009.

"We want to reach as large an audience as possible. We want to do for online gaming like what the Wii did for consoles," Mr Butterfield told BBC News.
