New figures have shown that 9.2 million people over the age of 55 are currently without internet access.
The report, conducted by Trend Micro, said that most of the elderly cite fear of technology and online fraud as the main reasons for not using the internet.
Commenting on the findings, Michelle Mitchell, charity director at Age UK, said:
"Some people may rely on their friends and family to access information online on their behalf, however many others [people over 60] simply will not have access to the internet at all."
In April, Age UK conducted a survey which found that almost four out of five (78 per cent) people over 60 felt that they were ignored by society. According to Ms Mitchell, not being tech savvy could contribute to the alienation of the elderly.
She urged both the public and private sectors to make sure that information is accessible offline for older people.
