There are huge skills gaps in the IT industry on account of a lack of graduates coming through, one expert has claimed.
Paul Smith, managing director at outsourcing provider Harvey Nash, told the Times that there are around 160,000 IT jobs currently unfilled in the sector - mainly in developer roles.
"There are not enough graduates coming through the systems," he stated.
"Only 11.4 per cent of students are studying science. And the problem is worsened by migration."
His comments were backed up by Gina Cintroni, commercial director of industrial PC manufacturer Amplicon. Ms Citroni said that a lack of IT and electronics graduates is resulting in a shrinking pool of talent.
Recently, Sarah Berry, author of Write a Perfect CV in a Weekend, suggested there has never been a better time for those looking to boost their computer skills to embark on a course of IT training.
