Proposals to regulate the way the internet is used could have a major impact on the IT industry in the UK, it has been suggested.
Pete Wishart MP, secretary at the all-party parliamentary IP group, has said the government's proposed laws for the UK's digital sector will mould the digital age in this country now and for years to come.
He explained the digital economy bill currently making its way through parliament "will go a long way to determining the online environment and possibly shape the way that the online environment will be pulled in the next generation".
Mr Wishart described the bill as possibly the most important piece of legislation to be introduced since the digital age began and as a result it is important that the lawmakers get the ingredients right.
The bill was introduced to parliament at the end of last month and sets out government plans to ensure the UK is at the leading edge of the global digital economy, aiming to support growth in the creative and digital sectors.
