IT industry professionals concerned about their employment rights could benefit from a new government-backed advice service.
The Pay and Work Rights helpline has been launched to help workers clarify workplace issues or report abuses.
In particular, the facility will focus on the national and agricultural minimum wage, legal working times, employment agency standards and gangmaster licensing.
The news was welcomed by non-profit organisation Work Wise UK, which said that any scheme offering more support to employers and staff was to be welcomed, particularly during a downturn.
Such facilities do have limitations, however, and can only function when used correctly, warned the group's chief executive officer Phil Flaxton.
He added: "You have to ensure that if you think you have a justifiable case, be it an employee or an employer then of course very often it will come down to arbitration because most guys won't agree and then you have to get a third party involved."
