Visit Britain is looking for new suppliers to replace its current e-commerce platform.
The UK tourist board has given potential candidates until October 1st, 2008 to express an interest in providing a new system.
Currently, Visit Britain has software supplied by La Garde called StoreFront which it has used for two years.
It has not specified why it is interested in a new supplier, but has asked for one which will be able to provide a new platform as well as a billing system, related databases and other applications
The work, which could well create new jobs in IT, is due to start in December this year and be completed by December 2013.
In a contract notice, Visit Britain said the supplier of the new software to be "the most economically advantageous".
Visit Britain provides tourist information on events run by the British Tourist Authority and also sells tickets for travel and various attractions.
