'More optimism' over IT industry recruitment

06:50 18th January 2011

Despite the economic crisis and an anaemic recovery, there is optimism in the recruitment market, particularly in the IT industry, according to Tony Roy, the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) president of job site CareerBuilder.

"There is definitely more optimism, more activity than we have seen in the past two years but it is still very cautious and we are waiting to see how it plays out," he stated.

The industry analyst said the technology sector is particularly active since mobile technology has experienced recent high demand, especially with the rise in the uptake of smartphones over the last year or so for personal and business purposes.

The IT industry is not the only one benefiting from a hiring spree. "Companies today who are making a hire are looking to do so in the areas of technology, sales, engineering, all those places that help drive innovation," he said.
