An increasing number of IT professionals are opting to develop their IT career with small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs).
According to Computer People, one of the UK's leading IT recruiters, 70 per cent of the IT positions filled by the company over the course of the last three months have been with small business rather than major corporations.
Employees who already have computer training are seeking more varied jobs and greater security by exploring opportunities with smaller businesses.
Nick Dettmar, managing director of Computer People, said: "Much as we saw happening in the City at the tail end of last year, high-flying professionals are now reconsidering careers with bigger firms and are instead considering the perceived security of SMBs."
Mr Dettmar added that IT professionals also frequently perceive small businesses to offer better chances of promotion than multi-national corporations.
Computer People has been doing business since 1972 and, according to its website, filled 20,000 contract positions through the course of 2007.
