Money biggest barrier to eco-IT

Cost has been identified as the biggest barrier to green IT, according to a new survey by the US tech services vendor CDW Corporation.

The poll found that over half of IT decision makers are delaying environmentally friendly IT technologies, citing concerns over the cost of the products.

The survey, which interviewed 1,000 US IT decision makers, also discovered that despite this 80 per cent of respondents across the IT sector believe that the implementation of green technologies is important.

"Even though IT decision makers clearly recognise the importance of green IT solutions, if going green means replacing servers that are already delivering reliable IT to an organisation, then widespread adoption may take some time," said CDW vice president, Mark Gambill.

Last month, the technology services company Accenture announced that it is to position itself in the market to capture the growing concern of the environmental footprint of enterprise IT.
