Mobile phone contracts 'confuse people'

Mobile phone contracts 'confuse people'

19:14 7th July 2010

Contracts given to people when they buy their mobile phones are confusing because they are difficult to compare, according to Flora Graham, mobile phones editor at CNET UK.

"To get a good understanding of your general usage is quite difficult. Once you want to compare contacts you have to think that some have different lengths some include unlimited internet, some have different types of limits put on them," Ms Graham said.

She went on to say that although a monthly bill could be examined, it can fluctuate the following month due to roaming charges or phone calls to overseas friends, so to get a good understanding of a monthly bill can be "quite difficult".

Her remarks followed a survey from TOP10.com which found that 42 per cent of Brits are confused by mobile phone contracts.

Ms Graham also said consumers tend to over estimate how much talk time they use which can lead to them paying more for a contract without using all the extras that come with it.
