Thanks to the prevalent presence of mobile gadgets, mobile marketing could one day supersede internet marketing, according to Gordon Borrell, CEO of local advertising research and consulting firm Borrell Associates.
Mr Borrell said that "all the signs are there" that mobile marketing could eventually supersede internet marketing, a topic that could be taught in IT training.
He also said there are huge opportunities in the market: "We shouldn't overlook the fact that mobile devices go with people, and tend to be very close to someone's wallet."
The expert said that another advantage of mobile marketing is that the messages are being sent to consumers at the moment they are making their purchasing decisions.
According to a report published in April by Borrell Associates, mobile marketing is set to reach dominant penetration levels faster than any medium before it.
Separately, ABI Research said marketers should pay attention to mobile, as the first waves of what could become a marketing "perfect storm" are underway.
