The rise of new smart mobile devices and new applications will provide "empowerment to the shopper", according to Chris Russell, director of eDigitalResearch.
"The big change will be consumer behaviour, with the introduction of new smart mobile devices and applications bringing more empowerment to the shopper - online and offline," Mr Russell said.
His views on the future of online shopping in 2010 followed the latest IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index which gave details of UK consumers' spending habits in November 2009.
According to the report, consumers spent £5.3 billion online in November. Sales were up by a quarter (25 per cent) compared to October, and sales were up 11 per cent year-on-year, the report added.
In other news, the development of personal computing built into smartphones is not likely to replace traditional desktop computers, an expert has claimed.
Rosemary Hattersley, associate editor at PC Advisor, said that it was difficult to say what the next trend in computing would be. Though she said that consumers should keep a close watch on the handheld gadget sector.
