Mobile is increasingly becoming critical to social media because people are adjusting the way they interact with mobile devices, according to Tim Gibbon, co-founder and editor of the Social Media Portal.
"Mobile devices are more sophisticated and have greater functionality that sets them up as the perfect devices for easier access to socially driven environments," he said.
His views emerged as Facebook unveiled plans to expand, through mobile, into developing markets.
Trevor Johnson, Facebook's head of strategy and planning for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), said the group is planning a series of "strategic partnerships" with mobile phone operators in Africa and the Middle East, according to Business Week.
In other news, a new application allows Facebook friends to send small payments to each other for small value transactions.
The service from ClickandBuy, called Buxter, handles transactions in US dollars and Euros, with plans to launch in sterling in the next month.
