Applications, or apps, for mobile devices will see revenues of $6.1 billion this year, which would represent an 82 per cent of all downloads this year and for 87 per cent of all downloads in 2013, market analyst Gartner was quoted as saying.
"As smartphones grow in popularity and application stores become the focus in the value chain, more consumers will experiment with downloads," Gartner research director Stephanie Baghdassarian was quoted as saying by Computer Weekly.
Ms Baghdassarian went on to say that games will remain the most popular product among apps, while mobile shopping and productivity tools will also gain momentum.

"I think they've waited way too long to build a hugely profitable business model, but there are derivatives they can grab onto," he said.
