New figures have revealed that total spending on UK mobile phone advertising jumped by 32 per cent in 2009.
A report by the Internet Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers said that overall spend on mobile shot up to a new high of £37.6 million last year.
According to the study, the last quarter of 2009 showed particularly strong display ad growth with overall sales reaching almost £5.5 million, an increase of 28 per cent compared with the same period a year earlier.
Eva Berg-Winters, a new media specialist at PricewaterhouseCoopers, said the survey identified two trends, "with some saying they had effectively discontinued their mobile investment and others saying they had actually increased their mobile investment".
She added that further investment is expected in the sector as mobile commerce becomes more popular.
"People are using their phone for media applications but when they start purchasing significantly with their mobile phone that will be a key driver for mobile phone advertising," Ms Berg-Winters said.
