Mid-level support and technical staff experienced the highest pay rise in the IT sector over the past year, according to new research.
The research organisation Incomes Data Services (IDS) published a study disclosing that media salaries for mid-level IT professionals have jumped by 13 per cent, to £24,177, over the past 12 months.
The group also revealed that the average salary for network and system engineers rose 9.5 per cent to £31,120, as the IT industry struggles to recruit adequately trained graduates.
Ken Mulkearn, editor of the IDS Pay in IT Report 2008, said: "The sizeable pay increases we are seeing in mid-level IT support and technical roles is being driven largely by acute skills shortages."
The average pay increase in IT over the past year was 3.5 per cent, though salaries for senior management have remained unchanged.
