SharePoint, a Microsoft's business collaboration software, has quickly gained market share in the enterprise content management (ECM) solutions area, said Bob Bueltmann, vice-president of business development and co-founder of KnowledgeLake, a provider of document imaging and capture technologies for SharePoint.
"It's interesting, the rapid adoption of SharePoint in the market for enterprise content management," said Mr Bueltmann, speaking at the London leg of the AIIM Roadshow 2010, an enterprise content management (ECM) event.
He said the take-up of the platform, which could be used in IT training, was very surprising since the software has only been in the market for the last couple of years.
Mr Bueltmann said that due to to the increase in popularity of SharePoint there might not be too much competition in the market in the years to come.
Separately, there are strong plans for current SharePoint users to migrate to SharePoint 2010, according to survey results published earlier this year by Metalogix Software.
