The Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) and investor MTI have provided £580,000 of investment to a technology company spun out of Manchester University, it has been revealed.

The Manchester Evening News reports that Nano ePrint has been given the funding, which could help it to provide new job opportunities and deliver successful prototypes that can be developed into viable products.

It is hoped the investment will help entrepreneur Scott White, who established the organisation, to build on existing operations and the move may provide a boost to the region's IT industry.

Nano ePrint is developing technology for use in sensors, security tagging and electronic greeting cards.

"We recognise that the technology developed by Nano ePrint at the University of Manchester has world-beating potential," Mark Hughes, executive director of economic development at the NWDA, told the newspaper.

Meanwhile, Kendal College in Cumbria has recently been given a £1 million grant by the NWDA to develop a new building at the centre, which will focus on improving the facility's digital and creative curriculum.
