M&A activity 'boosting IT jobs demand'

The pick-up in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activity could lead to an increased demand for workers with specialist IT training, it has been claimed.

According to the Professional Talent Spotlight Report from recruitment consultancy Badenoch & Clark, businesses will be particularly interested in individuals with SAP integrated planning skills, Computer World reports.

Market data specialists and IT professionals with business intelligence skills are also in high demand, said Matt Gascoigne, associate director of IT at the company.

"Software companies with Asia-Pacific operations are bolstering their oriental offices with market data specialists from the UK. We're consequently seeing rising demand for candidates with these skills in the UK," Mr Gascoigne told the website.

He added that cost control and business growth are both important focuses for many firms during the economic downturn and employees with IT training can help them achieve those aims.

In related news, NHS Wales has announced plans to roll out a new IT system that allows its employees to phone a single number for technical support, a fact that could create new IT jobs in the country.
