The future for Bluetooth lies in low-energy technology, with its power-independent wireless capabilities.
That is the opinion of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), which has said that Bluetooth will continue to develop over the next five to ten years.
According to Anders Edlund, marketing director for Bluetooth SIG in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, there will be a myriad of new applications, with many "due out next year".
He also suggested that Bluetooth will become more desirable following the adoption of Near Field Communication (NFC).
Mr Edlund made his comments while speaking at the recent Bluetooth Gift Guide Event in London.
"NFC reduces the number of steps needed to make a connection so it's a lot easier to support," he said.
According to research published last month by ABI Research, the market for Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) will expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 167 per cent over the next five years.
