The next-generation iPhone left in a Californian bar by an Apple employee is probably genuine, according to Conrad Longmore, editor at mobile phone news website Mobile Gazette.
"All the evidence is that this 'lost and found' iPhone is the real deal," Mr Longmore said.
Earlier this week, technology blog Gizmodo published details of this new iPhone one month after it was lost by Gray Powell, a software engineer for Apple.
According to Mr Longmore, the device is unlikely to be an intentional leak because the electronics, software and computer company keeps "a tight lid on developments", making it "very unusual to get a real glimpse" of its plans.
He added that with the company having turned off the handset remotely, only the iPhone's physical features, such as its front-facing camera and apparently higher resolution display, can be reliably revealed.
Apple announced Tuesday that it sold 8.75 million iPhones in the second fiscal quarter of 2010.
