The House of Lords will debate internet security on Friday (October 10th) to assess how far the government has come in addressing online safety.
The government has been criticised for a lack of action in the past by the Lords Science and Technology Committee, which has initiated change.
After the second report was published further steps were taken, such as the announcement of funding for an e-crime unit, though other measures called for, including the establishment of a security breach notification law, have been ignored.
Lord Broers, who chaired the inquiry into internet security, explained that the debate will enable Lords to question achievements and allow committee members to make proposals to better protect internet users.
Last month, the European Commission announced that it is looking at ways in which all EU citizens can have access to broadband internet by 2012.
Currently, seven per cent of the EU population do not have access to broadband.
