Data quality problems might be relatively simple for companies to detect but their resolution can be a difficult process, Lance Mercereau, director of marketing and public relations at Rosslyn Analytics, has said
"It is easy to identify, but it's harder to actually remedy the situation," he said, adding that while organisations may be able to "clearly identify" when poor quality data is being entered into a system, "addressing it is something else".
According to Mr Mercereau, groups that have installed a process that identifies and monitors how and when incorrect data enters their system are "in a better position to remedy that".
His views emerged after new figures by IT and business consulting firm Baseline Consulting showed that two-thirds of organisations now have data governance in place, an improvement over previous studies.
The report also said that nearly half of organisations have one or more data warehousing and master data management implementations.
