An IT company in Inverness is taking steps to equip locals with vital IT skills to ensure they can maintain a competitive edge during the economic downturn.
Up to 50 jobs will be created if the proposals for a hi-tech IT facility receive planning approval and it is hoped the centre will draw other businesses to the area.
The initiative is a boost for the local economy which is reeling from the recent announcement of the closure of fish processor Strathaird Salmon, which will see 350 jobs lost.
Stewart Nicol, chief executive of Inverness Chamber of Commerce, commented: "This is good news for Inverness. This is a field in which Inverness and the Highlands can excel and we need to take full advantage of the opportunities it offers."
Strathaird Salmon was founded in 1978 and employs over 150 workers in Inverness. It is set to close in August 2009.
