Despite recent efforts by Google to try to take market share away from Internet Explorer, the browser will still remain the most popular, according to John E Dunn, associate editor at enterprise IT news website Techworld.
"Internet Explorer will remain the number one browser for as long as Windows retains its dominance," Mr Dunn said.
He said that, while Internet Explorer will continue to lose market share to its rivals, its position will not be usurped until "browsers in their current form are no longer what matters".
"Browsers are best seen as an intermediate stage on the road to a world of far more featured mobile devices," explained Mr Dunn, adding that Microsoft is struggling to grasp such technologies.
In other news, search engine giant Google has announced it is to provide search results in real-time, in a move that could herald major changes for those with IT careers.
