Intel post record sales

10:22 18th July 2008

Intel has posted record second quarter sales of £4.75 billion, and has recorded a 67 per cent increase in year-on-year profits.

The world's most dominate supplier of microprocessors for PCs saw sales rise nine per cent and operating profits increase to £1.15 billion.

Intel's report did however show significantly lower flash memory revenue, along with £48 million restructuring and asset impairment costs.

Paul Otellini, Intel chief executive officer, was pleased with both revenue and profits and predicted more success in the rest of 2008.

He said: "Intel had another strong quarter with revenue at the high end of expectations and earnings up substantially year-over-year.

"As we enter the second half of the year, demand remains strong for our microprocessor and chipset products in all segments and all parts of the globe."

In 2007 Intel recorded revenue of $38.3 billion with an operating income of $8.2 billion.
